Modern Consumer Unit & Fuse Box Upgrades in London

18th Edition metal consumer units with RCBO protection and surge devices, fully certified and notified through NAPIT.

Older rewireable fuse wire boxes and plastic units fail to meet current BS 7671 standards and lack vital shock protection. Felix Electrical installs compliant, non-combustible metal consumer units equipped with miniature circuit breakers (MCBs), Residual Current Breakers with Overcurrent protection (RCBOs), and Surge Protection Devices (SPD) to protect delicate modern electronics. Every upgrade includes circuit testing, NAPIT building control notification, and an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC).

A modern consumer unit is the single most effective safety upgrade most homes can make. RCBO protection on each circuit means a fault on one circuit no longer plunges the whole house into darkness, and surge protection shields boilers, computers and AV equipment from voltage spikes.

We will assess your existing board and circuits first, then quote a fixed price for the upgrade – including any remedial work the testing reveals is genuinely needed.

What's included

  • Non-combustible metal enclosure meeting current BS 7671 requirements
  • Individual RCBO protection plus SPD surge protection for electronics
  • Electrical Installation Certificate and building control notification included

How it works

  1. 1

    Assess & quote

We inspect your existing fuseboard and circuits, explain what is needed, and give you an upfront fixed quote.

  2. 2

    Install the unit

The old board is safely removed and the new metal consumer unit installed, with each circuit clearly labelled.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my fuse box needs upgrading?+

Rewireable fuse-wire carriers, a plastic enclosure, or no RCD protection are all signs the board predates current standards. An EICR or a quick inspection will confirm it – we are happy to advise.

How long does a consumer unit upgrade take?+

The duration depends on the condition and number of existing circuits and whether testing uncovers remedial work. Power will be off for parts of the installation, and we will explain the expected schedule before work starts.

Do I get paperwork for the upgrade?+

Yes. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate recording the test results, and the notifiable work is registered with building control through our NAPIT registration.
